Partick Folk Club

Added on Saturday 1 Nov 2008

We had an excellent night last night at the Partick Folk Club - located in Peter's church hall, Chancellor St, Partick. The club is run by the talented folk singer Mick West; truthfully one of the nicest and most generous spirited people I've ever met. And - of course - a man with immense singing ability.

It was good to play on the same bill with such talented and entertaining performers, including Mick, The Moonshiners (Scotland's premier bluegrass and Old Timey outfit) and Gavin and Clare Livingstone. Sadly my memory has let me down when it comes to the other person who sang/entertained - because he was hilarious; dressed up in a camel suit (the excuse being that it was Halloween) and mixing jokes with traditional folk songs (e.g., "I haven't yet reported that my credit card has been stolen, as they are spending less than my wife"). Pat thinks his name was Jim Sheppard.

Last night was a new start for the club; in a new venue after moving from the The Partick Annexe. Regular folk club nights will be organised for the last Friday of every month from now on. I recommend you seek out the next one - as it's a great night out.
