Lyrics for Down by the Wildwood
Music and lyrics by Jim Byrne and Carol Kidd MBE
Listen to Down by the Wildwood
I smell the smoke of the campfire
gyspy music playing
soft as a whisper
drifting through the air
memories of my childhood
down by the wildwood
I see a travellers camp
and it takes me back there
I still hear the music playing soft within my soul
those gypsy violins still play
gentle voices I can hear them now
I carry them with me to this day
I saw the colours of the rainbow
in the dress that she wore
those jingle jangle sounds
as she danced across the floor
the fire was reflected
so clearly in his eyes
this was a love
no child could ever realise
I still hear the music playing soft within my soul
those gypsy violins still play
those gentle voices I can hear them now
I carry them with me to this day
so I followed that old moon
humming my old gypsy tune
a haunting childhood memory
planted deep inside of me
planted deep inside of me
planted deep inside of me
planted deep inside of me
